The cordless rotary hammer is very powerful and effective. Its great advantage is that it is so light weight. Other cordless hammers are much heavier and do not eat faster into concrete.
This Makita rotary hammer is so powerful it can keep up corded models in its class! It drills twice as fast as its predecessors because it synchronizes the rotation and hammering actions for more efficient drilling. This tool has a built-in clutch that limits excess torque, protecting the motor, in the event it hits rebar while drilling through concrete. It has a brake that conveniently stops the rotation of the chuck when youve stopped drilling. This light-weight tool is only 7.1 pounds, 16-1/8 inches long and comes with a 2-finger trigger, which provides comfort when drilling for long periods. It has three modes: rotary hammer drill, drill only (for drilling through wood or steel or for driving fasteners with an accessory chuck) and hammer only (for light, light-duty chipping). This rotary hammer is a 7/8-inch drill, which means the maximum hole it can comfortably drill is 7/8 inches in diameter. It drills faster at smaller diameters. This Makita tool delivers a whopping 1.9 Joules of impact energy. It has a SDS-plus chuck, which means it accepts SDS-plus drill bits, not SDS-Max bits. SDS-plus bits and chisels have a specialized groove pattern on the chuck end of the bit to prevent slippage of the bit in the chuck. SDS-Max bits and chisels have a different groove pattern and are only used on more powerful corded rotary hammers and chipping hammers. I bought this new hammer drill, not obsolete. And 'quite as powerful as corded rotary hammers. It seems more attacks per second as a similar size to hammer rope run, but every shot is so powerful. More or less what you do with a hammer cable of similar size, you can do with this battery-Hammer. can drill holes with 4.3 inches of concrete to a depth of 8 inches, about 15 holes before a need for recharging. In other words, about 15-20 minutes between using hardBattery. Everything is well built and designed. The battery is good. The charger is a strange triangular shape, but otherwise developed with a fan to draw air through the battery during heavy load. Completely discharge packs can be recharged in about 40 minutes.
This is a factory reconditioned power tool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like new condition. Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes. I have been in construction as a Union Pipefitter for 23yrs. Most of our piping is hung from expansion shields in concrete from above. I have used the Bosch 110v cord drills for many years without any problems except dragging 100ft. extension cords either up ladders or tied onto scissor and bucket lifts. The less volt battery drills have a slight problem getting through metal decking under the concrete,and battery charge does not last long. This 36 volt cordless was the answer to it all. I have used this every day for a week with one battery, before I needed to change it. Like other Bosch hammer drills, it is smooth, quick, and rugged. The only thing that I could slightly complain about is the overall weight of the drill and battery together when drilling above your head. However, with the equal power of the 110v and not dragging extension cords around through the tightest of places, I am getting used to the extra weight real quick. Great drill!

I purchased this rotary hammer new, not reconditioned. It’s pretty much as powerful as corded rotary hammers. It seems to run more blows per second than similarly-sized corded hammers, but each blow is not as powerful. So pretty much whatever you can do with a corded hammer of similar size, you can do with this cordless hammer. Drilling 3/4 inch holes in concrete to a depth of 8 inches, you can do about 15 holes before needing a recharge. In other words, about 15-20 minutes of hard use between battery charges. Everything is well built and designed. The charge indicator on the batteries is useful. The charger is an odd triangle shape, but otherwise well designed with a fan to pull air through the battery packs during heavy recharging. Fully discharged packs can be recharged in about 40 minutes.
